The Cadence Toolkit
A practical, repeatable wellbeing experience for employees, managers and teams.
High performance shouldn't cost you your people.
The Cadence Toolkit helps employees reflect privately, gives managers the confidence to act early, and shows leaders how their teams are really doing, before pressure turns into burnout.
Wellbeing support often arrives after the moment it was needed.
Managers are expected to deliver results and look after their people, usually with little guidance on the latter. Many don’t know the early warning signs, or what to ask when someone seems to be struggling, or they worry about saying the wrong thing. Most only find out something is wrong once it has become a problem: a resignation, a long-term absence, a team that has quietly disengaged.
Meanwhile, employees often stay silent. Guilt, uncertainty or fear of judgement can hold them back from asking for help until things have gone too far.
964,000 UK workers reported work-related stress, depression or anxiety in 2024/25. That’s a record high, and it cost 22.1 million working days. Source: HSE, Labour Force Survey 2024/25
For L&D, HR, DEI and wellbeing leaders, that gap is expensive. The policies and programmes often exist, but without confident managers and an simple way in, they don’t always reach people when it counts.
A simple framework for sustainable high-performance
The Cadence Approach was created by Leanne Spencer, an award-winning keynote speaker and four-time bestselling author who has spent more than 15 years working on one of today’s biggest organisational challenges: how to sustain high performance when the pace of work keeps accelerating. Cadence gives people and teams a shared language for how they’re really doing. Instead of waiting for burnout, it looks at four connected areas:
- Predict: When the big events are in your life and work
- Prepare: Make small changes that, when done consistently, have a big impact
- Perform: When you need to and ‘respect your red flags’ for good health and vitality
- Recover: Via slivers of recovery and deliberate rest because ‘backing off beats burnout’
Many organisations first meet Cadence through a keynote or masterclass. The Cadence Toolkit turns that thinking into something people can use every day, long after the session ends.
One hub. Three levels of support.
The Cadence Toolkit is a private, practical digital experience for employees, managers and teams. Each part is useful on its own, and together they form one connected journey.
For employees: the Cadence Check-in
Your most committed people are often the last to say they’re stretched. People want to do good work. They care about their team, their results and not letting anyone down, and that commitment is exactly what makes them push on when the pressure builds.
The Cadence Check-in gives people a private, low-pressure first step. They complete a short, anonymous check-in across the four Cadence areas and get an immediate colour-coded result, with clear guidance on what it means and what to do next.
No account and no stored history. Their result belongs to them. They can download their results, check in again later, and see how things have changed.
For managers: the Manager Insight Tool
Most managers want to help. They just aren’t sure how. Something feels off. A team member seems quieter, their work is slipping, or they’re working later than usual.
- Is this an early sign? Without a framework, it’s hard to tell a bad week from a pattern worth acting on.
- What should I ask? Managers worry about prying, overstepping or opening a conversation they can’t handle.
- How do I ask? Even with the right question in mind, finding the words, the moment and the tone that make someone feel safe to answer honestly is hard.
- What do I do next? If someone does open up, managers need to know the appropriate next step or point them to further support.
The Manager Insight Tool helps with each step. When a manager notices a change in behaviour, workload or performance, they can reflect privately on what they’ve observed. They then get conversation prompts, practical actions and guidance on when to seek further support. It’s a tool for reflection and support, not diagnosis.
For teams: the Team Cadence Tracker
Great leaders want to know how their team is really doing, not just how it’s performing.
The Team Cadence Tracker gives managers one clear, repeatable view of their team across Predict, Prepare, Perform and Recover. It brings together high-level outcomes from manager reflections and check-ins, then turns them into a simple team snapshot.
- See the whole team. An collated snapshot shows where the team is strong and where support is needed.
- Focus your action. Identify the priority areas as a team and agree practical steps with a clear purpose.
- Track change over time. Repeat the snapshot regularly to see progress, spot emerging patterns and review what’s working.
- Keep it simple and secure. Structured inputs and built-in scoring make it quick to use, and the data stays within your organisation.
Taking you from individual insight to team action. The tracker helps managers lead with observations and guidance rather than guesswork, and helps organisations build a high-performing culture that lasts.
Connect your own support
Your internal resources, contacts and escalation routes appear at the moments they’re needed, so people know exactly where to turn. Plus additional resources from our own extensive library of content.
Built on trust, designed for action
Most wellbeing tools stop at awareness. The Cadence Toolkit goes further, turning insight into confident, everyday action while protecting the trust that makes people use it.
Private by design. Employees control their own results, and team insight stays manager-led and focused on appropriate action.
Support, not diagnosis. Managers get prompts, boundaries and next steps, never a clinical role.
Beyond static content. People don’t need to remember a slide or a poster on the wall. The toolkit keeps Cadence usable every day and up to date with the latest resources and thinking.
Tailored to you. Co-branded and connected to your own resources and support routes.
